Today is International Women’s Day, and the campaign theme is ‘Be Bold For Change’.
“International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. Yet progress has slowed in many places across the world, so global action is needed to accelerate gender parity. In 2016 leaders across the world pledged to take action as champions of gender parity – not only for International Women’s Day, but for every day. Groups and individuals also pledged their support. In 2017, if leaders are seeking to declare their bold action via the IWD website and show their support for women’s advancement, please see details.”
How does this relate to apprenticeships?
Well, young women are falling short in apprenticeships, being misrepresented, achieving poorer outcomes and being paid less than their male counterparts, according to a report from the Young Women’s Trust charity.
One of the main problems is that over 50% of young women apprentices are only interested in five subject areas – the same proportion of young men generally work across ten areas. There are also a greater number of women to men who do not secure full-time employment after their apprenticeship. In 2016, Mike Thompson, director of apprenticeships at Barclays, labelled the findings “worrying”.

This is also an opportunity for employers to showcase the success stories of apprentices that have successfully gained employment through themselves.
More importantly, this week is to raise awareness on how important good careers education is in schools and colleges nationally, and this is something JTM are proud to be a part of.
It’s also National Apprenticeship Week, so if you’d like to find out more about the apprenticeships, courses or training we provide, get in touch by phone on 01513369340, by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or speak to an agent on our live chat!
You may be a school or college leaver, or just interested in a new career path. If that’s the case, then why not apply for an Apprenticeship with JTM?
Our apprenticeship and traineeship programmes are offered to young individuals looking to break into the industry. We’re here to provide you with some key information in applying for one of our programmes, and hopefully make your decision easier!
Many of you may be unsure what sector you’d like to work in. JTM offer a wide variety of subject areas such as: Customer Service; IT; Business Administration; Childcare; ILM; Teaching Assistant and more to ensure we have something available for everyone. We also offer Employability Skills training for those looking to start work. If you’re interested in a particular area, it might be worth attending one of our Information Sessions to gain more of a detailed understanding on each apprenticeship and what is required of you. The application process is short and sweet and we have advisors on hand to answer any questions you may have and advise you accordingly. Feel free to contact our live chat advisors on our website for more information, or give us a call on 01513369340.
If you are 16 or over, you can apply for one of our apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are offered from school leaving age, offering an alternative option for those unsure about attending college.
There’s a lot of speculation about entry requirements. Anyone can do an apprenticeship if they are of an eligible age. If you don’t have your GCSE’s we can still enlist you onto one of our programmes and you would be able to study to gain your English and Maths in addition to your apprenticeship qualification if you are old enough! Some specific courses such as Teaching Assistant do require that you currently work in a school so it’s worth enquiring if you’re interested in a specific qualification as they do differ. We offer courses to suit everyone.
JTM are proud to offer level 1, 2 and 3 courses in a variety of areas such as Childcare, Business Admin, IT and more. We can also advise how you would be able to do a level 4 or 5 higher education qualification with ourselves if this is what you’re looking for. JTM are an accredited centre for City & Guilds, CACHE,ILM and Edexcel qualifications. If you have any enquiries about a specific course we offer, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone, e-mail or live chat for more information. We’re always here to help!
Following completion of your apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to progress onto a higher-level qualification (e.g. Level 3 after completion of a Level 2) or alternatively secure a full-time place in your company.

What we did
At JTM, we specialise in working with local employers on their recruitment needs by offering bespoke training on employability and vocational skills that will better equip the applicant in securing a full time position within an organisation.
Setting up a Health and Social Care Sector Skills Academy, based at our learning centre in Speke and supported by the Merseyside District DWP, which included a full two week course with a guaranteed interview at the end with the employer, allowed the applicants to develop and practice their employability skills, ensure their CV’s were up to date and have time to prepare for the interviews.
What the employer had to say
“As part of our recruitment drive we have held a two week Sector Skills Academy which was provided by Jarvis Training Management Ltd, at their premises in Speke. For us, it has been a huge success! We employed 4 candidates from this group and we are delighted with each of them. All 4 have started as Support Workers and are settling in extremely well.
Prior to the start date, they all attended a further full week of training at our offices and each person showed full commitment to this course, attending every session on time and engaging well with other members on the course. The 2 weeks in the academy with Jarvis really helped us, in a sense that the candidates were well informed and genuinely excited and passionate about the position when they attended the interview. It was obvious that there was a real determination to get through the interview and to be accepted for the role and this has continued throughout their time with us so far. It also gave us the opportunity to see this commitment before we made a recruitment decision, which was really useful. For us as an employer, we would probably need to interview and train 10-15 candidates to find 4 committed, long term, reliable and dependable members of staff. So the time and resources that we, as a company have saved is invaluable.
The support we have received from the Jobcentre, in conjunction with Jarvis Training Management Ltd has been excellent. It has provided us with a different approach to our recruitment which we hope to make use of on a regular basis. A further benefit of this programme is that we are able to get in front of potential Support Workers, to tell them about the sector and answer any questions that they might have. It gives people who are considering a career in care, the opportunity to ask the important questions about the role and get honest answers.
For us, we recruit Support Workers based on attitude, personality and principles so we are not always looking for people who have worked in care before. This programme really supports our approach to recruitment”
Nicola Beal, Care Manager
