What we did

At JTM, we specialise in working with local employers on their recruitment needs by offering bespoke training on employability and vocational skills that will better equip the applicant in securing a full time position within an organisation.

Setting up a Health and Social Care Sector Skills Academy, based at our learning centre in Speke and supported by the Merseyside District DWP, which included a full two week course with a guaranteed interview at the end with the employer, allowed the applicants to develop and practice their employability skills, ensure their CV’s were up to date and have time to prepare for the interviews.

What the employer had to say

“As part of our recruitment drive we have held a two week Sector Skills Academy which was provided by Jarvis Training Management Ltd, at their premises in Speke. For us, it has been a huge success! We employed 4 candidates from this group and we are delighted with each of them. All 4 have started as Support Workers and are settling in extremely well.

Prior to the start date, they all attended a further full week of training at our offices and each person showed full commitment to this course, attending every session on time and engaging well with other members on the course. The 2 weeks in the academy with Jarvis really helped us, in a sense that the candidates were well informed and genuinely excited and passionate about the position when they attended the interview. It was obvious that there was a real determination to get through the interview and to be accepted for the role and this has continued throughout their time with us so far. It also gave us the opportunity to see this commitment before we made a recruitment decision, which was really useful. For us as an employer, we would probably need to interview and train 10-15 candidates to find 4 committed, long term, reliable and dependable members of staff. So the time and resources that we, as a company have saved is invaluable.

The support we have received from the Jobcentre, in conjunction with Jarvis Training Management Ltd has been excellent. It has provided us with a different approach to our recruitment which we hope to make use of on a regular basis. A further benefit of this programme is that we are able to get in front of potential Support Workers, to tell them about the sector and answer any questions that they might have. It gives people who are considering a career in care, the opportunity to ask the important questions about the role and get honest answers.

For us, we recruit Support Workers based on attitude, personality and principles so we are not always looking for people who have worked in care before. This programme really supports our approach to recruitment”
